More information about Alejandro Vigilante
During my life as an artist I've moved through many phases, from traditional themes in my early paintings to more contemporary and conceptual themes during the past years.
After living the dramatic experience of 9/11 on NYC that made me changed my vision of life, I reoriented my work; I took awareness of the big impact that internet was generating in the world. At certain point I asked myself: What is more pop that Internet? Internet is used by billions of people; it is the pop culture of our generation. Based on Pop Art and its most prominent artist in America I’ve developed on my paintings a concept that contains similes with Internet; the technique I use is image transfer over acrylic on wood, this would be the surface that would represent the computer screen, divided in multiple spaces, with exact shape and size, like a net, also resembling a network, and incorporating elements of social media like Facebook, Tweeters, Instagram and computer language and keep adding more components as the technology goes forward, because this is one of the sources that nourish my work.
The images I use on my paintings are pictures of worldwide celebrities; however I have used other elements as a subject of my paintings. Starting from a digital image that is intervened with a computer program, I have created a bridge between digital art and traditional painting in canvas, without losing the use of the brush. My artistic career is continuously growing in a conceptual way and I am encouraged by how positively people are responding to my work. I believe I am ready to take my art to a new level, expanding the concept I am developing and ways of working. My work finds more elements though people’s interaction, providing me new ideas that help to give shape to my concept.
