Esther Barend

Esther Barend has an unstoppable need to paint. Although mainly abstract, her paintings are mostly autobiographical in nature. She is inspired by her rich and complex inner world, her current emotions, and by contemporary events. She's always looking around her with an artist's eyes, feeling like a child, getting surprised time after time.

What she cannot say with words, Esther expresses with paint on canvas in colours and powerful motion. Barend not only wants to make beautiful things, but she wants to take the viewer along into a fascinating spectacle, which has been built by intense colours, contrasts and powerful movements—into another world that's raw, honest, and clear, but with enough space for the fantasy of the viewer to dream along. Painting has become essential for Esther, a way of living.
