| Saar van Leusden One of the concepts of SAAR 'Artistic Jewellery' is to make art wearable. With SAAR-ArtWear, a line of jewellery that was launched in December 2004 at the prestigious auction house Sotheby’s, Saar van Leusden bridges art and jewellery, exceeding the traditional boundaries. She cuts up canvasses of outstanding artists and from each part she takes a small detail. The parts are delicately framed and the details are fixed into a piece of jewellery, a pendant or a brooch. Artists of the first hour are: Jan Cremer, Astrid Engels, Cole Morgan, Miriam Slaats and Ruud de Wild. They dared the challenge. For a painter, the canvas is the final result, for Saar it means only the start. Although most artists would not even contemplate the idea of having their works cut up in pieces, these five fully trusted Saar and her fine concept. Saar used their works as a starting point of a new dimension in art: it is so renewing, that you doubt your eyes see it right. Is this a piece of jewellery? Is this a painting? SAAR ArtWear is innovative, original, playful, confronting and above all very beautiful.
