Mark Seliger is an American photographer known for his portraits of celebrities and political figures. His sitters have included  Lenny Kravitz, Cindy Sherman, Drew Barrymore, and many others. “I started pretty young, shooting for magazines when I was 26. I think it’s really about persistence and doing it a lot, it helps tremendously,” he has explained of his career. “I also think opportunity has helped, being at the right place at the right time.” Born on May 23, 1959 in Amarillo, TX, he grew up in Houston and attended East Texas State University. Moving to New York in 1984, by 1987 he was working for Rolling Stone. Only five years later, Seliger was promoted to chief photographer, a position he maintained until 2002. During his career with the publication, he was responsible for the creation of over 100 covers. Seliger currently lives in New York, NY, where he works for Condé Nast.
